We would like to inform you about AntiSpy.Shop's response regarding the case on June 27th where the "Pixel 7" was banned from sale in Japan due to a patent lawsuit won by a Korean company.
Due to the injunction on the sale of the Google Pixel 7 series in Japan (related to a patent infringement lawsuit), our store has also suspended the sale of AntiSpyPhone using the Pixel 7 / 7 Pro.
This is not a sudden decision; we have been aware of the legal risks related to this model for some time and had already stopped sales to avoid disadvantages to customers and risks of unsupported devices.
Why don't we sell the Pixel 7?
The Pixel 7 series is a device with excellent security features, but it was expected that continuing sales in Japan after 2024 would become difficult.
The background involves a standard essential patent (SEP) held by the Korean mobile phone manufacturer Pantech, especially related to 4G LTE signal control mapping technology. On June 24, 2025, the Tokyo District Court recognized Pantech's claim and ordered the injunction of sales of the Pixel 7 series.
AntiSpyPhone is not just "selling smartphones." We prioritize maintaining security long-term and have the following principles:
・Only adopt models that can reliably receive OS updates and parts procurement
・Do not adopt devices that may become unsupported in the future
・Avoid devices with expected legal risks or sales restrictions
The recommended models going forward are the Pixel 8 series and Pixel 9 series.
The Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 series currently sold at our store are the latest devices for which Google guarantees security updates for the next 5 to 7 years and fully support privacy enhancements by GrapheneOS.
Furthermore, we plan to expand our lineup with new models such as the Pixel 8a as well.
